Abstract—This study presents an innovative pedagogical proposal for teaching natural sciences through the Technological Mediation course in the undergraduate program at the University of Córdoba (Colombia). Using the Design Science Research Process, the project aimed to enhance students’ digital and pedagogical skills by fostering the creation of narrative-based educational resources with Exelearning. The intervention, conducted with fifth-grade students at Colegio Juan XIII in Montería, led to improvements in pre-service teachers’ technological competencies, instructional planning, and student engagement, as well as reading comprehension among primary students. The study highlights the effectiveness of Information and Communication Technologie (ICT) integration in fostering 21st-century skills and improving science education, emphasizing the value of digital storytelling and open-source tools in teacher training. However, the study’s limitations include its implementation in a single institution and a relatively small sample size, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Future research could address these limitations by including larger sample sizes and exploring the long-term impact of the intervention.
